Web Search
3 min read
Get accurate, up-to-date information from live web sources while building your app.
Sticklight can search the web when a question benefits from current information. This includes technical documentation, pricing data, industry context, real-time details, or anything else that helps answer your question accurately. When it searches, you see a “Searched the web” entry in the Tasks area with links to the sources it found.
How It Works
The assistant decides when to search based on your request. There is no search button. If your question would benefit from current web data, the assistant may search to get accurate information.
You can also ask directly:
“Search the Supabase docs for this API”
“What’s the current pricing for Twilio SMS?”
“Build a dashboard showing today’s top sports scores”
“Add a news section with the latest headlines about AI”
“What accessibility requirements apply to government websites?”
“Create a market overview using current stock prices”
What You See
While searching, the Tasks area shows “Searching the web” along with what it is looking up.
After the search completes, you see:
- Source favicons: Up to six clickable icons linking to the sources
- Expandable details: The search objective, queries used, and full source list
- Source links: Each source shows the title and domain. Click to open in a new tab
The assistant uses these sources to answer your question or solve the problem. Source links let you verify the information or read more.
When Web Search Helps
Web search works best when current information matters:
- Recently published content and studies
- Official documentation for a specific library version
- Current API capabilities or pricing for third-party services
- Unfamiliar error messages from external tools
- Up to date news or sports data
- Industry context, regulations, or compliance requirements
- Competitor features or market expectations
- Real-time data like exchange rates, availability, or status
When to Use Something Else
| Need | What to use |
|---|---|
| Search your project files | The assistant searches your project automatically |
| Check runtime errors | Sandbox logs or browser console |
| Use a website as a design reference | Paste the URL and ask to build from it |
| Access your account data from a service | Connect that service through a connector |
| Read one specific URL | Paste the relevant content directly |
| Personal browsing or entertainment | A regular browser |
Availability
Web search is available in:
- Build mode
- Ask mode
- Plan mode
It is not available in Stylist mode.
FAQs
Can I make the assistant search?
Yes. Ask it directly: “Search the docs for…” or “Look up the current pricing for…” The assistant decides whether a search is needed based on your request.
Are the sources reliable?
The assistant shows which sources it found, and you can click to verify them. However, search results come from the web and should be checked against official sources when accuracy is critical.
Does web search work with private or paywalled content?
No. Web search only retrieves publicly accessible information.
Why did the assistant not search when I expected it to?
The assistant searches when it determines that current web information would help answer your question. If it already has reliable information, it may not search. You can ask it to search explicitly if needed.
