About Sticklight MCP
10 min read
Learn what Sticklight MCP is, how it works, and which AI client is right for your workflow.
Sticklight MCP connects your Sticklight workspace to AI assistants like ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, Windsurf, and Antigravity. Describe what you want to build in natural language, and your AI assistant creates, edits, previews, and publishes through Sticklight, all without leaving your conversation.
For web creators and agencies, this means you can work in the tool you already use for research, writing, or coding, and build client projects without switching contexts. Start a landing page while discussing strategy in ChatGPT. Refine an app while coding in Cursor. Your AI assistant becomes a direct line to Sticklight.
What Sticklight MCP Does
Once connected, your AI assistant can:
Create new apps – Describe a project and Sticklight builds it. A client landing page, a booking system, a dashboard. Your prompt is the brief.
Edit existing projects – Make changes to any project in your workspace. Add sections, update content, refine layouts, fix issues. Reference a project by name or ID.
Show live previews – Watch your app build in real time. The preview widget loads directly in your AI client, so you see results without opening another tab.
Publish and unpublish – Push projects live to your sticklight.app subdomain or take them down. Manage your published sites from the conversation.
Check your account – View your current plan, credit balance, and project list. Get quick answers about your workspace.
Choosing Your AI Client
Different AI clients suit different workflows. Here’s how to think about which one fits your work.
| Client | Best For | Key Strength |
|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT | Client conversations and ideation | Context stays in one conversation |
| Claude | Complex builds and detailed feedback | Handles nuanced, multi-step instructions |
| Cursor | Code-aware workflows | See and edit generated code directly |
| Windsurf | Rapid prototyping | Speed-optimized for quick iterations |
| Antigravity | Visual-first builders | Live canvas with drag-and-drop refinements |
Understanding the Live Preview
When you create or edit an app through MCP, Sticklight shows a live preview directly in your AI client.
How the Preview Loads
- You send a create or edit prompt
- Sticklight confirms and starts building
- A preview widget appears in the conversation
- The widget shows a loading state while the build runs
- Once ready, the live app appears in the widget
What You Can Do With the Preview
Watch the build progress – The preview updates as Sticklight works. You see the app take shape in real time.
Interact with your app – Click around, test navigation, fill out forms. The preview is a live sandbox of your app.
Spot issues early – Catch layout problems, missing sections, or content issues before publishing. Note what needs changing and prompt for edits.
Preview Across Different Clients
| Client | Preview Experience |
|---|---|
| ChatGPT | Inline widget in conversation, resizable |
| Claude | Inline widget, may require scrolling on longer conversations |
| Cursor | Preview panel alongside code editor |
| Windsurf | Preview panel in the editor interface |
| Antigravity | Live canvas that updates during builds, interactive positioning |
When the Preview Doesn’t Load
If the preview shows an error or stays stuck:
- “Building…” for more than a minute: Ask “What’s the status of my preview?” or prompt another small edit to refresh
- “Authorization required”: Reconnect the Sticklight connector to refresh your session
- Blank or error state: The sandbox may be restarting. Wait 30 seconds and ask for the preview again
Working With Projects
Creating New Projects
Use create prompts when starting something new:
“Use Sticklight to create a restaurant website for an Italian trattoria. Include a hero with their tagline, a menu section organized by course, an about section with the family story, a reservations widget placeholder, and location with hours.”
What happens:
- Sticklight creates a new project in your workspace
- The AI build starts immediately
- A preview appears showing progress
- The project saves automatically
Editing Existing Projects
Use edit prompts when modifying something you’ve already built:
“Edit my Italian restaurant project and add a private events page with a booking inquiry form and a gallery of past events.”
Referencing projects:
By name:
“Edit the project called ‘Trattoria Bella’ and update the hours to include Sunday brunch.”
By ID (useful when names are similar):
“Edit project abc123xyz and add customer testimonials to the homepage.”
To find project IDs:
“List my Sticklight projects.”
Listing and Finding Projects
See everything in your workspace:
“List my Sticklight projects.”
Get details on a specific project:
“Get details for my project called ‘Agency Portfolio’.”
Publishing Projects
When your app is ready to go live:
“Publish my Italian restaurant project to trattoria-bella.sticklight.app”
Before publishing:
- Review the preview thoroughly
- Test on different screen sizes
- Check all links and forms work
- Confirm the subdomain is available
Unpublishing Projects
To take a site offline:
“Unpublish the trattoria-bella project.”
The project stays in your workspace. You can republish anytime.
Prompt Strategies for MCP
Working through an AI assistant adds a layer between you and Sticklight. These strategies help you get better results.
Be Specific About the End Result
The AI client interprets your prompt before passing it to Sticklight. Specific prompts survive this translation better than vague ones.
Good: “Create a landing page for a yoga studio with a calming hero image area, class schedule organized by day, instructor bios with photos, a pricing section with three membership tiers, and a contact form.”
Not as good: “Make me a yoga website.”
Include Context About Your Audience
Help the AI understand who this is for:
“Create a portfolio site for a commercial real estate broker. Their clients are business owners and investors, so the design should feel professional and trustworthy, not flashy. Include property listings, market insights blog, and a credentials section.”
Describe the Feeling, Not Just the Features
Go beyond a feature list:
“Create a landing page for a high-end home organization service. It should feel calm and aspirational, like a magazine spread. Show before/after transformations, the process in simple steps, and testimonials from busy professionals.”
Use Follow-Up Prompts for Refinement
Don’t try to get everything perfect in one prompt. Build iteratively:
First prompt:
“Create a SaaS landing page for a time-tracking tool aimed at freelancers.”
Follow-up:
“Add a features section with icons for invoicing, project tracking, and reporting.”
Another follow-up:
“Make the pricing section more prominent and add a comparison table for the three plans.”
Reference the Preview in Your Edits
After seeing the preview, be specific about what to change:
“The hero section is too tall. Reduce the height and make the headline larger. Also, the testimonials section needs more contrast between the background and the quote text.”
Managing Your Account Through MCP
Check Your Credits and Plan
“What’s my Sticklight plan and how many credits do I have?”
Sticklight returns your current plan, available credits, and usage information.
Get Help and Resources
“What can Sticklight do?”
Or:
“Give me information about Sticklight’s features and pricing.”
This returns product information without leaving your conversation.
Workflow Examples
Freelancer: Client Intake to Delivery
Scenario: A client reaches out wanting a new website. You handle the entire process in ChatGPT.
Conversation flow:
- Discuss requirements with the client in chat (or paste their brief)
- “Use Sticklight to create a website for this business: [paste client brief]”
- Review the preview and share a screenshot with the client
- “Edit the project and [incorporate client feedback]”
- Iterate until approved
- “Publish to clientname.sticklight.app”
- Share the live URL
Why this works: Context stays in one conversation. You can scroll up to reference the original brief while making edits.
Agency: Rapid Prototyping for Pitches
Scenario: You need to show three different directions for a client pitch tomorrow.
Using Windsurf for speed, create three variations:
“Use Sticklight to create a bold, high-energy landing page for a fitness app. Bright colors, dynamic imagery placeholders, strong CTAs.”
“Use Sticklight to create a minimal, premium landing page for the same fitness app. Lots of white space, subtle animations, sophisticated typography.”
“Use Sticklight to create a community-focused landing page for the same fitness app. User testimonials prominent, social proof, friendly and approachable.”
Why this works: Windsurf’s speed lets you generate multiple directions quickly. Show clients real prototypes, not mockups.
Developer: Code-Aware Building
Scenario: You want AI speed but need to review and customize the code.
Using Cursor:
- “Use Sticklight to create a dashboard for a client’s inventory management system. Include product list, low-stock alerts, and a simple analytics view.”
- Watch the build in the preview
- Open the project in Sticklight Studio
- Export to your development environment or review code directly
- Make manual adjustments as needed
- “Edit the project and add filtering by category and a bulk update feature”
Why this works: You get the speed of AI generation with full code access for customization.
Troubleshooting
Connection Issues
“Connector cannot be added”
The URL must be exactly https://mcp.sticklight.com/mcp. Common mistakes:
- Using
https://mcp.sticklight.comwithout/mcp - Adding a trailing slash:
https://mcp.sticklight.com/mcp/ - Typos in the domain
“Login loops or OAuth fails”
Try these steps:
- Clear your browser cookies for sticklight.com
- Try a different browser or incognito window
- Disconnect and reconnect the integration
“Authentication required” during use
Your session expired. Reconnect the Sticklight connector in your AI client’s settings.
Project Issues
“No projects found”
The connected account has no projects yet, or you’re signed into a different Sticklight account than expected. Check which account you authenticated with.
“Project not found” when editing
Double-check the project name or ID. Names are case-sensitive. Use “List my Sticklight projects” to see exact names.
Preview Issues
Preview stuck on “Building…”
Initial builds can take 30-60 seconds. If it’s been longer:
- Ask “What’s the status of my preview?”
- Try a small edit prompt to refresh the connection
- Check if Sticklight is experiencing issues at status.sticklight.com
Preview shows “Authorization required”
Your session expired. Reconnect the Sticklight connector.
Preview is blank or shows an error
The sandbox may be restarting. Wait 30 seconds and ask for the preview status again. If it persists, try editing the project to trigger a fresh build.
Tool Visibility Issues
Claude or Cursor doesn’t show Sticklight tools
- Reload the MCP server configuration
- Verify the URL ends with
/mcp - Check that authentication completed successfully
- Restart the application
ChatGPT doesn’t show the connector option
Custom connectors require a paid ChatGPT plan. Verify your subscription supports connectors.
Secrets and API Keys
“App needs secrets” or similar errors
Some features (like form submissions or API integrations) require API keys or credentials. Add them in Sticklight Studio:
- Open the project in Sticklight Studio
- Go to Settings -> Secrets
- Add the required credentials
- Return to your AI client and continue
FAQ
Do I need a Sticklight account?
Yes. When you connect for the first time, you sign in with your Sticklight account. If you don’t have one, you can create it during the OAuth flow.
Does this cost extra?
No additional cost for MCP access. Creating and editing apps uses your regular Sticklight AI credits, the same as working in Sticklight Studio.
Can I see the code Sticklight generates?
Yes. Open any project in Sticklight Studio to view, edit, and export the code. If you’re using Cursor or Windsurf, you can also access code through those editors.
What happens if I close the conversation?
Your project is saved in your Sticklight workspace. Start a new conversation and reference the project by name or ID to continue editing.
Can team members access projects I create through MCP?
Projects live in your Sticklight workspace. Team members with workspace access can view and edit them in Sticklight Studio or through their own MCP connection.
Which AI client is best?
It depends on your workflow:
- ChatGPT for client conversations and ideation

Can I use multiple AI clients with the same Sticklight account?
Yes. Connect Sticklight to as many clients as you like. They all access the same workspace and projects.
What if my AI client isn’t listed here?
Any MCP-compatible client that supports remote servers and OAuth should work. Use https://mcp.sticklight.com/mcp as the server URL and complete the OAuth flow.
Can I use MCP on mobile?
ChatGPT’s mobile app supports connectors. Other clients vary. Check your specific client’s mobile MCP support.
How do I disconnect Sticklight from an AI client?
Go to the AI client’s settings and remove or disconnect the Sticklight connector. This doesn’t delete your projects; it just removes that client’s access.
