Project Instructions

Define guidelines that apply to every conversation in your project. Set brand colors, design preferences, and project rules once.
Project Instructions let you define guidelines that apply to every conversation in your project. Set your brand colors, design preferences, and project rules once, and the AI will follow them automatically.
No more repeating yourself at the start of each chat.
Who can do this: Owners and Admins can edit Project Instructions. Editors can view but not modify them. See Roles and Permissions for details.
Setting Up Project Instructions
- Go to Settings in your project (see Project Settings for details)
- Find the Project Instructions section and click Edit
- Write your guidelines (up to 3,000 characters)
- Click Save
From that point on, every conversation with the AI will include your instructions automatically.
What to Write
Think of project instructions as a brief for your AI collaborator. Keep it short and specific.
Project context
- “This is a portfolio website for a landscape photographer”
- “An internal dashboard for tracking team OKRs”
Design preferences
- “Dark theme, minimal layout, large image galleries”
- “Use rounded corners and soft shadows throughout”
Brand guidelines
- “Use #2A4D6E as the accent color”
- “Primary font is Inter, headings in Playfair Display”
Writing style
- “Use sentence case for all headings and buttons”
- “Keep copy casual and friendly”
Structure rules
- “Keep the navigation simple: Home, Gallery, About, Contact”
- “Every page should have a clear call-to-action”
Examples
Photography portfolio:
Portfolio site for a landscape photographer.
Dark theme, minimal layout, full-width image galleries.
Navigation: Home, Gallery, About, Contact.
Sentence case for all text. Keep copy minimal.
SaaS marketing site:
Marketing site for a project management tool.
Accent color: #6366F1. Clean, modern aesthetic.
Always include a CTA above the fold.
Tone: professional but approachable.
Internal tool:
Internal inventory tracker for a small warehouse team.
Prioritize speed and clarity over visual polish.
All tables should be sortable and searchable.
Mobile-friendly is a must.
Tips
- Short and specific works best
- Update anytime as your project evolves
- Focus on things you’d otherwise repeat in every conversation
- You don’t need to include basic instructions like “write clean code” – the AI already does that
Project Instructions are one of the easiest ways to get more consistent results. Set them up once, and every conversation starts with the AI already knowing what matters to you.
