Creating a Workspace
2 min read
Add a new workspace with its own billing, members, and projects.
Who can do this: Anyone with a Sticklight account can create additional workspaces.
Create a new workspace when you need a separate environment with its own billing, members, and projects. Each workspace operates independently with its own Pro subscription.
When to Create a Workspace
A new workspace makes sense when you need:
- Separate billing for a different client or business
- A distinct member list with no overlap
- An isolated credit pool
A new workspace is not the right choice when you want to:
- Organize projects into folders (workspaces are billing boundaries, not folders)
- Give someone access to a project (invite them as a member or collaborator instead)
- Keep projects separate while sharing billing (use one workspace with collaborator roles instead)
Where to Find It
Click your workspace name in the top-left of the sidebar to open the workspace switcher. At the bottom of the menu, click Create a new workspace.
How It Works
Creating a workspace is a three-step process.
Step 1: Name your workspace
Enter a name between 2 and 50 characters. This name appears in the workspace switcher and helps you identify which workspace you are in.
Step 2: Choose a plan
Select a Pro plan for your new workspace. Additional workspaces require a paid subscription. There is no free option for second workspaces.
Step 3: Activation
Your new workspace is created and activated. You are now the owner and can start creating projects or inviting members.
Billing
Each workspace has its own subscription and credit balance.
- Creating a new workspace starts a new Pro subscription at $25/month
- Credits in one workspace cannot be used in another
- Each workspace has its own payment method and invoices
If you need to consolidate billing, keep everything in one workspace and use roles to control access.
Pending Workspaces
If you leave the creation flow before completing it, the workspace appears as Pending in your workspace switcher. You can:
- Resume setup by clicking the pending workspace
- Discard it by clicking the X next to it
Pending workspaces do not expire automatically. If you have a pending workspace, you cannot create another one with a different name until you complete or discard it.
FAQs
Do I need a new workspace for each client?
Not necessarily. If you are the one paying and building, keep all client projects in one workspace. Use collaborator roles to give clients access to only their project. Create a separate workspace only when the client needs their own billing and full ownership.
Can I move projects between workspaces?
Yes. Use project transfer to move a project from one workspace to another. The receiving workspace must have a Pro subscription.
Can I rename a workspace later?
Yes. Go to workspace settings and update the name. Pending workspaces cannot be renamed until setup is complete.
What happens if I cancel my second workspace?
The workspace and its projects remain accessible until the end of your billing period. After that, you lose access until you resubscribe.
