Workspace Templates

Turn a project into a template your team can reuse. Available on Enterprise workspaces.
Workspace templates let you turn any project into a starting point your whole team can reuse. Build a landing page, client portal, or dashboard once, make it a template, and anyone on your team can start a new project from it in a click.
Workspace templates are available on Enterprise workspaces, with up to 20 templates per workspace.
When to Use Workspace Templates
Workspace templates work well when your team:
- Builds similar sites for different clients and wants the same structure every time
- Has an approved layout, brand setup, or set of pages that new projects should start from
- Wants to share a proven starting point instead of rebuilding from a prompt
If you want an exact copy of one project for yourself, duplicate it instead. See Duplicate Website.
Make a Project a Template
You can make a template from two places:
- From the homepage. Click the … menu on a project card and select Make template.
- From project settings. Open the project in Studio, go to Settings > General, find the Workspace template card, and click Make template.
A dialog asks you to confirm. Click Make template, and the project moves into your workspace’s template gallery.
Before you start
A project needs to be offline and on its own before it can become a template. Make template is unavailable while the project:
- Is published. Unpublish it first.
- Has a custom domain. Remove the domain first.
- Has a deployment in progress.
- Is being transferred to another workspace.
If something is in the way, hover over Make template to see what to fix. Make template is also unavailable once your workspace has 20 templates. Remove one to make room.
What Changes When a Project Becomes a Template
While a project is a template:
- It shows a Template badge.
- It leaves your homepage project list and lives in the template gallery instead.
- It cannot be published, given a domain, or transferred. The Publish button and the Domains settings page are hidden in Studio.
A template is always live. Whatever the template contains when someone uses it is what gets copied. If you edit the template, every new project made from it after that includes your changes. Projects your team already made from it stay as they are.
Find Workspace Templates
Open the template gallery from Templates under Library in the sidebar, or click Template next to Start with under the homepage prompt.
The gallery has three tabs:
- All shows your workspace templates and the templates by Sticklight together.
- Workspace shows only the templates your team made.
- By Sticklight shows the ready-made templates from the Sticklight team.
When your workspace has templates, the gallery opens on the Workspace tab. Each workspace template card shows who created it and when. Use the search bar to find a template by name or description.
To preview a template, hover over its card and click View template. The preview shows a screenshot of the template, its description, and who created it.
Start a Project From a Template
- Find the template in the Workspace tab
- Click Use template in the preview, or in the … menu on the card
- Enter a name for your new project. The template’s name is filled in for you.
- Click Use template
Sticklight creates a separate, editable copy of the template as a new project in your workspace and opens it in Studio. Changes you make to your new project never affect the template.
The copy works the same way as duplicating a project. Your code, pages, and database structure come along, but database content, secrets, and custom domains do not. See Duplicate Website for the full list.
Once your project is ready, make it yours with a follow-up prompt:
“Update the branding for Golden Hour Photography, change the colors to navy and gold, and replace the placeholder copy on the home page.”
Edit a Template
To update a template, click Edit in its preview or in the … menu on the card. The template project opens in Studio, where you can build with chat, edit manually, or change the code like any other project. Your changes apply to every new project made from the template from then on.
Remove a Project From Templates
When a template is no longer needed, Owners and Admins can turn it back into a regular project:
- Find the template in the Workspace tab, or open it in Studio and go to Settings > General
- Click Remove from templates in the … menu on the card, or in the Workspace template card in settings
- Confirm by clicking Remove from templates
The project stays in your workspace as a regular project. It returns to your homepage project list, leaves the template gallery, and you can publish, connect a domain, or transfer it again. Projects your team already made from the template stay as they are.

FAQs
How many templates can my workspace have?
Up to 20. When you reach the limit, remove a template you no longer need to make room for a new one.
Why can’t I make my project a template?
Hover over Make template to see why. The project might be published, have a custom domain, have a deployment running, or be in the middle of a transfer. Your workspace might also have reached 20 templates. Only Owners, Admins, and Editors can make templates.
Why can’t I find my project on the homepage anymore?
It’s a template now. Templates live in the template gallery under the Workspace tab instead of your project list. To bring it back, remove it from templates.
If I edit a template, do projects already made from it change?
No. Each project made from a template is a separate copy. Your edits only show up in projects created after you make them.
Can I publish a template?
No. Templates cannot be published or given a domain. If you want to publish it, remove it from templates first. You can also use the template to create a new project and publish that.
I sent a transfer invitation for this project. What happens if I make it a template?
Making the project a template cancels the pending transfer invitation. If the transfer is already being processed, wait for it to finish before you can make the project a template.
What happens to our templates if we leave the Enterprise plan?
Your templates stay in the gallery with an Enterprise badge, and the option to use them changes to Upgrade to use. Owners and Admins can still remove projects from templates at any time.
